The NHS Community Pharmacy Blood Pressure Monitoring Service enables us to identifying risks and help prevent cardiovascular disease

CVD is the second most common cause of premature death in England, affecting 7million people. High Blood pressure can increase the risk of having a heart attack or stroke, but detecting this condition early and providing the correct treatment can help people live longer, healthier lives.
How does this service work?
A community pharmacist will measure the blood pressure of adults who come into the pharmacy, by offering patients a free blood pressure check who:
– over 40 years old
– has not been previously diagnosed with hypertension or a related condition
– has not had their blood pressure measured by a health professional in the past six months
After the consultation, if the readings show:
Normal Blood pressure- the pharmacist will promote healthy behaviour and lifestyle choices
-High Blood Pressure- the pharmacist will then offer Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) from the pharmacy and also advise of healthy lifestyle choices
-Very Hight Blood Pressure- the pharmacist will refer the patient URGENTLY to see their GP within 24 hours and thin form them using NHS mail.
-Low Blood Pressure- the pharmacist will provide advice on how to manage this but could also refer the patient to their GP if there are any concerns.
